Hurricane Shutter Quote Checklist for Contractors
A useful quote starts with a clear opening schedule and project details, not a rough count of windows.
The short answer
Prepare a labeled schedule of each opening, its width and height, mounting surface, selected shutter type, finish and operating options. Include photos of obstructions, applicable approval documents and the delivery destination. Dimensions, hardware, configuration, freight and final price should be reviewed before a customer approves an order.

Build an opening schedule the customer can verify
Assign a unique ID to each window and door, such as W1 for the front bedroom or D2 for the patio slider. Record width, height and quantity using the method requested for the selected product. Keep rough opening, frame, glass and finished shutter dimensions in separate fields. If a quote tool requests a specific measurement, follow its instructions and flag unusual openings for review.
Group identical openings only after checking that size and mounting conditions match. Similar-looking windows can have different trim, wall returns or attachment surfaces. Label photos with the opening ID so the office and installer can connect each image to the schedule.

Record mounting conditions and project constraints
Note the apparent mounting surface, trim projection, soffit or balcony above, railings, downspouts, lights and landscaping. Flag openings that are difficult to reach. Photos help identify questions, but they do not prove the substrate or structural capacity. Have the installer inspect actual conditions and compare them with the exact product instructions.
Ask how the customer uses each opening. Accordion shutters need room for the side stack and tracks. Rolling shutters need space for housing and guides. Removable panels need a defined attachment and storage plan. For every style, consider doors, daily access and required exits with the installer and project designer.
Identify the product and approval documents
Name the proposed system and configuration rather than writing only 'hurricane shutters.' Storm panels, accordion shutters and rolling shutters differ in operation, storage, hardware and approval limits. Decorative appearance alone does not mean a shutter is impact-rated. Verify the exact model, dimensions, pressure, attachment and installation against applicable documents.
Search the official Florida Product Approval database or Miami-Dade Product Control database when relevant. The listing and drawings govern the documented assembly; a product family name is not enough.
Separate product pricing from the installed project cost
List finish, controls, hardware and requested options. Include the delivery ZIP code or international destination and any freight access restrictions. Freight is reviewed separately and can vary by order and destination. Installation is not included, so prepare a separate installation estimate through your own business or selected installer.
Before presenting a final customer price, check that the quote covers the same openings and components, reflects confirmed dimensions and approvals, includes office-confirmed freight, and states who handles installation. Confirm current business pricing, quantity terms and production estimates for each order rather than relying on an old project.
Common questions
Can I quote from window glass sizes?
Use the measurement requested by the quote tool and product instructions. Do not substitute glass dimensions for opening or finished shutter dimensions without confirming the measurement convention.
Does the product quote include freight and installation?
Freight and final order details are reviewed by the office. The company supplies shutters but does not provide installation, so installation should be quoted separately.
Can one approval cover every shutter size?
No. Confirm that the exact model, dimensions, design pressure, attachment and installation match the applicable documents and project requirements.
